Reuters, citing ship-tracking firm Kpler, reported five commodity-vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday and none registered on Sunday, compared with 31 the prior weekend. The observation points to sharply reduced commercial traffic, but it is not an official tally and may not capture vessels operating without AIS signals. It does not, by itself, establish whether the Strait is legally open, navigable, commercially viable or insurable.
U.S. and European cash markets have not opened. One official sovereign print did land: L’IMAD, through ADQ, notified AD Ports of an intention to make a voluntary conditional cash offer at AED 6.25. That is a notification, not a close.
What happened
Tracked Hormuz traffic, not an official census
Reuters, citing ship-tracking data, reported five commodity-vessel transits through Hormuz on Saturday 15 August and none on Sunday 16 August, against 31 over the preceding weekend. Pre-war daily traffic is cited at more than 130 ships. Reuters noted that vessels may transit undetected with transponders off. The print is a vendor observation, not an official census, and not a legal, physical or insurance finding that the waterway was closed.
Sunday’s edition already used Friday’s Kpler-via-Reuters print: two completed transits, an empty products tanker inbound, and no visible crude. Reuters reported the weekend figures, citing Kpler. The count is not an official tally and may exclude AIS-off traffic.

Friday oil is settled; Monday session is unconfirmed
Friday’s settlement, as reported by Reuters, was Brent $88.52 and WTI $82.40. Those are settlement prices, not a Monday session print. A Monday intraday snapshot could not be confirmed from the Reuters.com original at this check. A later commercial reprint is not the capture.
Intended source: Reuters, 17 August ›
No new hull. No new official attribution.
Attribution of Friday’s unnamed ADNOC vessel to Iran remains unchanged from Sunday’s edition, with no new official updates released over the last 24 hours. On Saturday the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Iran was responsible for Friday’s ADNOC-operated vessel. That is the ministry’s attribution; it is not independently verified here. Official releases still describe four involvements across three incidents. The vessels remain unnamed. Four distinct hulls have not been established.

AD Ports says ADQ affiliate intends an AED 6.25-per-share offer for remaining shares
AD Ports Group said on Monday 17 August that it had received a notification from L’IMAD Holding Company PJSC, a sovereign investor of the Government of Abu Dhabi, of its intention to submit a voluntary conditional cash offer, through its wholly owned subsidiary ADQ, for up to 100 per cent of the issued capital not already held by ADQ. L’IMAD, through ADQ, already owns 75.42 per cent. The intended price is AED 6.25 a share — a 22.55 per cent premium to the 14 August close of AED 5.10 on the opened issuer page, 25 per cent to the one-month VWAP of AED 5.02, 31 per cent to the three-month VWAP of AED 4.76, and 95 per cent to the 8 February 2022 listing price of AED 3.20. The issuer rounds the close premium to 23 per cent. The matter goes to the Group’s board under CMA Chairman’s Decision No. (18/R.M) of 2017. Further announcements will follow in due course.
This is a notification of intention. It is not a submitted offer and not a close.

No new Treasury or Fed instrument over the weekend
The newest OFAC and Treasury press items reviewed are dated 12 August. Fed postings last updated 14 August. Announcements were indicated for this week; no instrument has been published. PBOC’s Monday USD/CNY central parity fixed at 6.7873, a routine print.

Qube closed Friday. List removal is scheduled today.
Macquarie Asset Management, with UniSuper and Pontegadea among the named co-investors, completed its scheme of arrangement for Qube Holdings on Friday 14 August, valuing the ports and terminals business at about A$11.7 billion. The release does not provide a complete investor register. Qube is scheduled, as reported, to leave the ASX official list at the close of Monday 17 August. That is a scheduled list-removal, not a new Monday cheque.

What the disclosure actually shows
Sunday’s table was incident versus involvement. Today’s is tracked traffic versus Friday’s settlement, and a notification versus a close.
| Instrument | What the opened paper shows | Stage / limit |
| Hormuz weekend traffic | Five commodity vessels Saturday; none registered Sunday; 31 the preceding weekend (Kpler via Reuters reprints) | Vendor observation, not an official census. Reuters reported the figures, citing Kpler. AIS-off traffic may sit outside the count. Pre-war daily >130 is a cited comparison. Not a legal, physical or insurance finding |

Where the disclosure runs out
The traffic product. The figures are Kpler as reported by Reuters. Vessels with transponders off may sit outside the count. The print is not an official tally.
The hulls. Names, IMO numbers, flags, cargo, laden status, damage and cover remain undisclosed. Official releases still describe four involvements across three incidents. Four distinct hulls have not been established. No new incident dated 16–17 August was identified on opened WAM or MoFA pages.
Regulatory paper. The week of 17 August has opened. No Treasury or OFAC instrument dated 16 or 17 August was identified. TIC June is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Washington and had not been released at this hour.
War risk. No Lloyd’s Joint War Committee circular dated 16 or 17 August was identified.
13F files. Holdings dumps are as-of 30 June, not August purchases. Named 13F files were not reviewed for this brief.
Allocator Lens What this means for the portfolio |
Energy and transport. Kpler’s weekend print is a low-coverage operational indicator. A zero on Sunday is a tracking observation, not a census. Escalate if a multi-day recovery is corroborated on the same tape or by an official source. |
Risk and treasury. Separate a higher oil print from a net balance-sheet effect. Friday’s Reuters-reported settlement remains Brent $88.52 and WTI $82.40. A Monday session print was not confirmed from the Reuters.com original. |
Private markets. L’IMAD’s AD Ports notice is a transaction-stage signal — an intention at AED 6.25, not a change of control. ADQ already holds 75.42 per cent. |
Capital Flows
Stage language is load-bearing. A vendor count is not an official tally. A notification is not a close. A municipal grant is not a sovereign cheque.

The physical layer
Hormuz is the transit story. Weekend traffic is Kpler via Reuters reprints, not an official tally. Official releases still describe three incidents and four vessel involvements between 8 and 14 August. They do not establish four distinct hulls. Bab el-Mandeb is a separate waterway. Same reprint: 49 commodity transits versus 55 the prior week; no tracked Saudi oil. Mocha’s port closure already sits on Sunday’s page. This is a new weekend count, not a new Houthi claim.
Flores. Magnitude 7.7, Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara, Saturday 15 August 04.58.24 WIB. Kepala BNPB, Monday 17 August: 54 dead “per hari ini.” The Sunday 16.00 WIB official page was 53.
