Research & Intelligence for Long-Term Capital

Last updated: 25 May 2026

Universal Asset Owners' research arm exists to help the world's largest investors understand the forces shaping long-term capital allocation — and to give the firms that serve them a credible platform to reach that audience. Our output is sourced, dated, and caveated, and it spans several formats designed for different needs, from a quick definition to a deep report.

What we publish

  • Rankings — sourced, dated league tables such as the largest sovereign wealth funds and the largest pension funds, with transparent methodology. Browse the full set on the rankings hub.
  • Profiles — canonical, citable asset owner profiles of individual sovereign funds, pensions, and endowments, covering assets, mandate, governance, and strategy.
  • Guides and explainers — definitional and thematic pages on the concepts, regions, and trends that drive long-term portfolios.
  • The answer hub — clear, structured answers to the most-asked questions, built for both human researchers and AI answer engines; see the answer hub.
  • Flagship reports — long-form research on the themes shaping institutional capital, available as downloadable, branded documents.

How our research is built

Everything we publish follows the same discipline: material figures are drawn from primary disclosures and reputable trackers, dated with an "as of" reference, and caveated where sources differ. We do not fabricate assets, rankings, leadership, or holdings, and where a fund does not disclose its size we say so and use clearly-flagged estimates. Each reference page carries a "cite this page" note, and we welcome citation with a link. This is what makes our research usable by analysts and journalists and credible enough for the institutions themselves.

Working with our research

Research is also our most natural sponsorship and partnership product. A single sponsor can underwrite a flagship report or research note on a theme relevant to their firm — private credit, infrastructure, AI, climate, or Gulf and Asian capital — co-branded, with shared lead capture, and produced to our normal editorial standards. To explore underwriting a report or commissioning custom research, see sponsor our research or contact us directly. We also produce private briefings and bespoke research for firms that need a deeper, confidential engagement.

Custom and private research

Beyond our published work, we produce custom and confidential research for firms that need a deeper engagement — for example a private briefing on a region or theme, a bespoke landscape of a peer group, or a data-backed analysis to support a product launch. These engagements are conducted to the same sourcing standards as our public work, and they can be paired with publication or kept confidential, depending on your goals. To commission custom research or underwrite a flagship report, see sponsor our research or contact us directly with the question you are trying to answer and the audience you want to reach.

Who uses our research

Our research serves three audiences at once. Institutional allocators — CIOs, trustees, and investment teams — use it to understand peers, themes, and the forces shaping their portfolios. Reporters and producers use it for fast, sourced background and citable figures. And the firms that serve asset owners use it to understand the market and, through sponsorship, to reach it. Designing for all three is deliberate: it is what gives the research both reach and credibility, and it is why a single report or ranking can simultaneously inform an allocator, anchor a news story, and generate qualified leads for a sponsor.
